Biography
Dr. Alexander is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine. He has practiced advanced medicine at Virginia Oncology Associates since 1998. Dr. Alexander received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia. He also completed his Internal Medicine residency and Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
Dr. Alexander has served as co-lead and principal investigator for US Oncology, Cooperative Group and pharmaceutical clinical research studies. He is an active member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Alexander serves on the Sentara Hematology Committee as the Chairman as well as on the US Oncology Hematology Committee.
A proponent of education and research, Dr. Alexander had participated in several clinical research studies and educational opportunities on the management of hematological disorders. He has a special interest is hematology in liquid tumors such as multiple myeloma, leukemia and lymphomas as well as benign disorders.
In his personal time, Dr. Alexander enjoys spending quality time with family.
